When I ask people to define innovation, the most frequent response is "thinking outside of the box." Thinking, however, is not innovation. Innovation is always implemented, not merely thought about.

Unfortunately, "innovation" is an over-used term. Marketing messages are always announcing some "new innovation," which on closer examination is simply a stellar example of improvisation, ingenuity, or inventiveness.

In a hyper-competitive business climate, however, corporate leaders cannot settle for some pale imitation of innovation. Genuine innovation is the key to keeping their organization at the cutting edge.

In this episode we look at the question, "What is innovation?" and then examine a case study which demonstrates how to instill a culture within your sphere of responsibility where innovation is actively encouraged and pursued.
